VILNIAUS DEGTINĖ
Though „Vilniaus degtinė“ distillery was found more than 100 years ago, the factory in Vilnius has been opened recently. A renovated canteen there looks very fresh and new. The quality of food and service could be easily compared with any usual cafe.

Very talkative canteen worker.

Everything is new.

I have to admit that the most interesting places where you can get food are the factory canteens. Not only because there you will find out what kind of people work nearby - for example, who are making suits for the members of Parliament or producing liqueur. You can also visit the next door company store and do some shopping cheaper. Saving some money is guaranteed!
But let's go back to the canteen „Vilniaus degtinė“. The entrance demonstrates that this is not a usual place to eat – there are various flowers queued up on wicker tables near the door. As you enter the canteen, you get even more surprised - facilities, furniture, walls, even trays for food are unbelievably new.
As I queue up, it becomes clear that cepelinai (Lithuanian national dish - a type of dumpling made from shredded potatoes and usually with forcemeat inside) is probably the most popular dish here. Cepelinai are ordered by everybody - young ladies (by the way, without greaves sauce and only half portion, of course), young workers and seniors (they are asking for double portion and also adding some boiled eggs). Anyway, I decided to try pea soup and roast chicken with fresh tomatoes.
Concerning food, it was fantastic. Everything was fresh, warm and melting in my mouth. It seems that not only I enjoyed the food; some of the visitors were heading to the counter for one more order. Maybe walls painted in warm yellow colour also have something to do with that? I apprechiate it and want to come back here again and again.

Food
I could talk about this food for ages. Pea soup was thick with various vegetables-really delicious and filling. Chicken with tomatoes was soft and succulent, tomatoes were slightly sweet. All that was served with fresh (!) cabbage and radish salads. It was the first time I found this kind of salads in a canteen.

Compote
Compote is worth 10 points, end of discussion. Boiled with strawberries, slightly sweet and refreshing.
Lunch price: 10, 80 Lt
