OPEROS IR BALETO TEATRAS
The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre always look grand – a magnificent palace, astonishing sculptures and fountains, and a great collection of chandeliers. Something similar can be said about the canteen of the theatre. Dark wooden walls, stained glasses and elegant cups will astonish everyone. But, there is one but here. The canteen is available only for workers.

Entrance
The canteen of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre is just as refined and sublime as the pause between plays in the theatre – dark walls and old yellow chandeliers. It seems that in a moment Figaro will come to offer you a cup of traditional hot chocolate or some brandy for the older.

Wooden tables, stained glasses and napkins decorated with golden patterns are a great sight for visitors of the canteen. Don’t be surprised – the menu here is traditional, as in the majority of canteens. So one will be offered a plate of cold borshch (lt. šaltibarščiai) and a few chicken dishes. And, not surprisingly – “Rafaelo” sweets – you couldn't imagine the canteen of the theatre without them.

Interviu su valgyklėlės virėja Terese

So what is your favourite dish?
I'd say, salads. All of them are delicious; I don't even know the names of all of them.
Do you cook at home?
Of course. I don't have my speciality dish.. I cook simple ones. All kind of steaks. In general, I like meat.
What do you think the Dutch eat?
I have no idea. I have never thought about it. I know what Italians eat: cannelloni, spaghetti, etc. I have never been to Holland, so I don't know. We used to have a Dutch artistic director working here, so he used to eat in the canteen.
